Swap, Share, Give Linky ~ Freebies & A Giveaway

I am so excited to share this awesome resource with you today! I have been very fortunate to be a part of the talented bloggers who have come together to bring you....

This has been organised by Bec Perry from Books, Bugs & Boxes! :)

So, I was so excited to be paired up with Tania from Mrs. Poultney's Ponderings! I chose to use her pack Verbs Category Sort which was perfect for my low ESL class:

As soon as I opened this file, everything was clearly set out for me. I just printed off the verb cards, the recording sheets (which are differentiated by the way - so awesome). Here are some piccies for you!

These are the sorting mats for each of the categories. I found that my ESL students LOVED these. It helped them categorize their thinking with minimal confusion lol:

These are the recording sheets. I used the recording sheet with the four columns to save on paper but you can also print the sentences sheet on the back for an extension activity:

At first, we began the lesson by introducing verbs as a whole class discussion and brainstorming activity. I wrote down the four categories on the board and began to list a few verbs to help jog the class's thinking about verbs. I listed the big headings verbs that show speaking, movement, thinking, & possession.

I then handed out two sets of the verb cards there are about 8 words for each category so I laminated both sets for durability and placed the students in two separate groups and explained that this task is a competition game. Whoever sorts all the cards correctly **and I emphasized the correctly bit lol**

I walked around to check that the two groups where sorting correctly, they needed dome guidance but it was self explanatory with the mats and the cards. Soon enough I was hearing a buzzing of excitement while they were trying to finish before the other group with some students popping in to check every now and then haha that was fun! Here is an example of the mat in action:

Finally, I checked their work and kept the words on the mats while they copied their correctly formed words on their recording sheets. I did a further activity where I wrote the answers on the board. There is an answer key provided so that definitely helped! We discussed the words and created sentences with them as a whole class.

Here's the link to the product for more info: Verbs Category Sort.

So here's a mini freebie to share with you all related to conjunctions. I created this group game to practice conjunctions with my low level ESL class, it is available only on the blog - it is set out just like the game above only with two print outs for two groups and if you have a larger class you could print doubles of group 1 and 2. I love thinking of ways to save paper and enjoy class activities with the students!

Just click on any of the following pictures to get it! I hope you like it. :)

Now, for the giveaway enter here for a chance to win all these resources together! What a great deal. :)
